Who I am...

About Tracy Elsinger and her artwork

My history

I’ve been an artist for over 30 years. I started in photography and then I ventured into painting around 2010. I love to take outdoor pictures and visit places I have never been before. This gives me an opportunity to share my perspective about the location and culture. When I return, I use the photographs as inspiration for my paintings. I will sometimes try to recreate a scene as-is and other times I try to create something entirely different but inspired from the source images.

Inspiration
I love to do this in my spare time to relax and to challenge myself to do something new. I get inspiration from other artists as well as online sources. I’m always looking for a new challenge.
Sometimes I even find inspiration in the strangest places such as the way a reflection hits a window in the evening. These make great abstract paintings!
I have reproduced several works of art from the masters such as Monet, Titian, Mary Cassatt, and others. I love to emulate their methods and learn new techniques and styles of painting. Plus, it is nice to have a reproduction of their work for myself!

My process
I create my work mostly on canvas or canvas boards. I like the thin canvas boards because they are easier to frame. Sometimes I like to use textured paper with deckled edges. It gives a really nice effect to watercolors.
The custom frames that I make can really highlight key features of a painting. I stain and hand paint highlights on the frame to really pick up on the nuances of a color in the art itself.

For the love of art!
My work is for people who love nature and the outdoors. I know when I look at my pieces, they bring a sense of calm and serenity. I hope to share that feeling with others through my art.
